BIOintestil® - Totally Natural
BIOintestil® is a mixture of Palmarosa Essential Oil (Cymbopogon martinii), with a very high Geraniol content (> 90%) and Ginger rhizome powder (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), titrated in 6-Gingerol.
Palmarosa promotes digestive function. Geraniol has remarkable antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger promotes digestion, regular gastrointestinal motility, gas elimination and counteracts states of tension in the intestines. Gingerol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-emetic properties.
BIOintestil® can be used as a raw material for food supplements with eubiotic action.
Based on preclinical scientific studies and a pilot clinical trial on patients suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), BIOintestil® has been shown to be able to positively modulate the intestinal microbiota, offering relief from typical IBS symptoms such as abdominal pain and/or bloating, irregular bowel movements, diarrhoea or constipation, flatulence, poor digestion, reflux, nausea and vomiting.
The data were further confirmed by a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

The BIOintestil® product formulation and production technology are patented in Europe. The patent covers the use of essential oils or their individual components adsorbed on plant fibre to promote the release of active substances in the colon and the mixing process that optimises the powder, making it easier to handle and encapsulate.
What is BIOintestil® used for?
What does Eubiotic mean?
Eubiotics are positive modulators of the gut microbiota that do not belong to the category of probiotics, prebiotics or postbiotics. The term refers to various natural substances such as certain essential oils that can positively modify the gut microbiota. The general term ‘eubiotic’ is related to the Greek term ‘eubiosis’ and refers to an optimal balance of the microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract. The main purpose of using a product with eubiotic action is to maintain or restore intestinal eubiosis.
BIOintestil® is an innovative eubiotic food supplement. The product provides valuable support in the management of disorders associated with IBS, but it does not work in the same way as probiotics or prebiotics. It cannot be considered a probiotic, nor does it help other microorganisms to grow, so it cannot be considered a prebiotic. It is not an antibiotic (it cannot kill all micro-organisms in general, nor pathogens such as Salmonella) but acts selectively by counteracting the growth of only ‘possibly’ pathogenic bacteria, the so-called ‘opportunistic pathogens’. These are bacteria commonly found in the gut, which can cause dysbiosis and even disease when they grow above a certain number and at the expense of other gut bacteria. Therefore, a eubiotic such as BIOintestil® helps to maintain the right levels of opportunistic pathogens without affecting commensal bacteria and can help to make the environment conducive to rebalancing the microbiota by also regulating digestive function.
Why are essential oil of Palmrose and Ginger rhizome powder used?
Geraniol is a molecule naturally present in various essential oils – lemongrass, geranium, rose, lavender – but it is particularly abundant in Palmrose essential oil. Preclinical and clinical studies show that geraniol has remarkable antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Why is BIOintestil® an innovative product?
In the innovative BIOintestil® formulation, the use of ginger rhizome powder in the mixture allows the geraniol to remain adsorbed in the fibre and pass intact through the first tract of the intestine. As a result, geraniol is released topically in the colon in a high percentage, promoting a natural rebalancing of the colonic microbial community.
Has BIOintestil® been clinically tested?
Based on preclinical scientific studies and two clinical trials on patients suffering from IBS, conducted at the Department of Clinical Medicine of the S. Orsola Hospital of the University of Bologna and the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences of the Spedali Civili Hospital in Brescia, BIOintestil® has been shown to positively modulate the intestinal microbiota, reduce abdominal bloating and to optimise the intestinal function of these patients. These data were obtained in a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study.
Is Biointestil® a safe ingredient?
Geraniol is a non-toxic compound, classified as GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) by the FDA and has a DNEL (Derived No-Effect Level) of 13.5 mg/kg according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). There is an extensive European regulatory framework covering the safe use of product ingredients:
-Cymbopogon Martinii essential oil and Zingiber officinale Roscoe rhizome powder are certified for food grade use. -According to DM 27/03/2014 of the Italian Ministry of Health, the use of Cymbopogon martinii essential oil is approved in food supplements for digestive function.
-According to DM 27/03/2014 27/03/2014 of the Italian Ministry of Health, the use of Zingiber officinale is approved in food supplements for digestive function, regulation of gastrointestinal motility and gas elimination.
-According to Regulation 15/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 on Novel Food, BIOintestil® does not meet the definition of “Novel Food”. According to Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods, BIOintestil® can be defined as a “source of fibre”. -According to Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, BIOintestil® is composed of 100% natural ingredients that meet the definition of “naturally occurring substances.
Does BIOintestil® contain gluten?
The basic ingredients of BIOintestil® – Palmarosa and Ginger – naturally do not contain Gluten. However, the production chain is not certified Gluten Free, so BIOintestil® may have traces of Gluten from the manufacturing process.
Is the product GMO-free?
BIOintestil® is GMO-free. It does not contain, derive from or consist of Genetically Modified Organisms. BIOintestil® complies with EC Regulations 1829/2003 and 1830/2003. In particular:

Where do the ingredients of BIOintestil® come from?
Each ingredient in BIOintestil® comes from China/India (Ginger) and Brazil (Palmrose), their native lands, while their processing takes place in Italy – e.g. Ginger is dried and powdered in Italy. The quality of the raw materials is double-checked: Ginger and Palmarosa arrive in Italy with their own analysis certifications. Distributors verify these certifications while conducting their own quality control and quality assurance procedures. The raw materials are also subsequently checked in the final product TGD s.r.l. checks the raw materials and the final product with its own analyses. These analyses include, for example, tests for the presence of pesticides, pollutants, mycotoxins, allergens, pathogenic bacteria such as salmonella and coliforms, and much more.
In what form is BIOintestil® sold?
TGD s.r.l. has developed BIOintestil® as a raw material to be used alone or in combination with other ingredients in food supplements. As a raw material, the product is sold in the form of hygroscopic powder. BIOintestil® is available as a food supplement, BIOintestil® Complex for direct sale to customers in form of capsules. In Italy Eurekol, distributed by Diadema Farma, is the only food supplement made of BIOintestil® available.
How is BIOintestil® produced?
– Fresh Ginger is dried and processed into powder in Italy.
– Palmrose Essential Oil with a very high Geraniol content is added to the mixture and adsorbed into the powder in Italy.
